One of the parking brake cables on my truck seized up so I installed a new one. The parking brake apparently has a mechanism in the brake pedal assembly to take up the cable slack, as there is no threaded rod adjuster in the cables under the truck. I need a bit more length from the cable coming from the front of the truck to make the new cable work. I looked this up in my Chilton manual, but it does not mention anything about releasing the cable on this "self-adjusting" parking brake. How do I release the cable from the parking brake? Thanks guys!

Hmm....seems like I'd be having to remove my OBS one to figure this out.....LOL so I can start from loosest to tightest...

Hmmm...didn't know this existed like this.

I gotta do some research now, as this is well NEW to me.

Well, I searched the internet and not much came up on this. Again, my Chilton manual does not address the issue at all. It turns out that you just need to pull really ******* the cable to get it too uncoil from the automatic tensioner. I did that and got my cables hooked up again and it all works! First activation of the parking brake pedal seemed to "reset" the tensioner and I am "good to go".

If you want to make it pull out easier you just push up the little lever at the front of the cable reel: that allows you to pull it out freely.
