Can air travel through the return lines back to the filter head? I wonder if it may have gone easier if we continued to periodically bleed the Schrader valve while we were trying to bleed the injectors. BTW, we had our first sub freezing night here in Chicago (28 degrees) and it started right up.

No.. Not really but.. If that bleeder valve on the filter head is bad you can draw off some of the fuel in the filter.
