When the truck is up to operating temp, i get a low pitched, rhythmic, thumping noise from the engine. the noise is not faint, but not overbearing at all. it does it in all gears, and sounds like its ahead of the dash thats why im thinking its the engine not the tranny. anyone know what im talking about?

check your flexplate and converter bolts. Also, make sure the flexplate isnt broken.

does it sound sound like a rod knock? a bad injector can cause a knocking sound...you could try loosening one at a time to see if the noise goes away.

Another idea, remove your front accessory belt and fire it up. Sometimes vac pumps make funny noises. This way you can narrow it down to engine or appendage.

Good luck and let us know what you find,

Paul

ill have a chance to work on it on sunday. i wish i could explain the noise in better detail.

its definatly rhythmic, and deep. and......theres no vibration from it, and.....its a soft knock like something you wouldnt be overly concerned with, and you can hear it knock probably 4 times a second.

i dont know if that last one helps out at all but this is what ive observed.

now it fades out almost all the way when i put it in park, and comes back when in any gear. i guess its tranny related. would too much fluid make this noise?
