No start diagnosis

This is a continuation from my previous thread. Parked the truck out back and began to dig in. Following the Haynes diesel engine repair manual i have i found the following:

Checked each glow plug with a test light, all 8 were ok.
Checked continuity between the plug end and battery, all at or under 1 ohm.
Control unit ground test, .6 ohms which was fine
Supply voltage test, to power terminal 12.6v which was fine
Ignition switch voltage test, to igintion terminal 11.99v, which was fine.
Control unit function test, to the terminal with the z spring. Compare to the WTS light. Nothing. tried three different grounds with no light from the test light. the WTS light comes on for 5-8 seconds with a warm engine.

So, looks like the unit may be bad. Am i going in the right dirction? I had to come up the house to thaw out, its a little chilly out (28* lol). Funny because i can hear things clicking in the controller...Also started it up several times with success but this is with a warm engine.

Did you take apart the main engine wireing harness plug and check for corrosion on the two yellow wires that feed power to the controller. See if that plug is hot after you attempt a start.

i did that previously when i was going through the battery wiring. It was a little green inside but nothing more than a few small grains of sand worth. IT does get warm but not hot. I plan on bypassing/replacing it with a larger wire once i get the truck into the garage.

I found my extra GP controller so i may throw it on tomorrow for S-n-G's if i dont go to the junkyard.

is there 12v to the small red wire on the relay? Does the controller ground the small white wire to the relay?

edit: yes i have 12v at the red wire, thats the igintion wire.

I dont quite understand, the small white wire is for ground?

the small red is key on 12v, the controller grounds the small white, wich turns on the relay.

hmm, thats the only post i didnt check/test. the main power and igintion both have 12v.

How do i go about checking that or testing it?

Tried to start it yesterday and noticed the voltage guage drop when the WTS light was on. I will have my dad try to start it and see if anything clicks and try the function test again before i replace the controller. I dont know where else to go as it passed every other test.

Thats my ame problem, i cant figure it out. Everything seems to pass the test's, has tons of new parts but wont start worth a crap under 30 degree's, started it yesterday early morning it was 16 outside "no block heater" it cranked for 8-10 secounds and i hit the gp's a secound time then cranked 5-7 secounds before starting.. It has to be a heat issue, or maybe an IP issue i just cant figure it out.

Post up if you fiure your's out, your description is about identicle to what mine does..

true it does but mine wont start, at all! If i give it a small huff of ether it fires right up.

Friday i cranked its nuts off with no start. Since i just try it once or twice then stop. All of a sudden though, i find it odd, all of a sudden one day its 100% the next its nothing.

Same here!! A couple times i've started i cold and it start's pretty good, other times it starts hard and when realy cold under about 28 mabey it can be a bear to start and i almost always need to gp cycles and to tries at cranking it when it's that cold or under.. If i dont get it sorted out soon i'm going all in and buying a new gp controller, new gp harness and a new injection pump and having it put in time by a pro. If i go all out like that, it'll be another 5-7 hundred bucks in this dam thing. Then if that does'nt get it rite, i geuss wait untill july and sell it to some sucker when it's 80 degree's out..

I have a new, spare controller im gunna put on today and see if that changes anything. Im gettin plenty white smoke out the exhaust now so its not fuel, thankfully.
