The lift pump in the picture you posted last week showed a recent looking lift pump in that truck. Of course it could still be bad or installed wrong, just don't give up on it just yet, might need a good priming of the system. X6 on bypassing that seperator.

Well i installed the new lift pump... that kinda sucked... but now the truck wont even turn over.. every so often it will start then die immediately, and it smokes a lot. I tried bleeding the fuel system, don't know if i did it correctly though.. is there something i'm missing?

Do you have the separator bypassed? I would try the diesel-in-a-can trick, right before the lift pump. Just take loose the hose loop and stick it in a can of good clean diesel. If still not cranking up after a few minutes of combined tries (don't forget to let starter cool down for 5 mins after a max crank time of 15-20sec), then work your way up the fuel system. Is the filter OK? Junk may have clogged it during all your recent repairs. Dump it out and refill with clean diesel. Are you getting fuel @ the schrader valve on the filter head? If yes, then...it's not looking good for your IP. :(

to start,,a stalled out engine..get the 2 cycle mixed oil for yer chainsaw..put in a 1 qt spray bottle,,like used for windex...spray this in hthe intake,,as someone cranks it over..should fire immediately..just keep it up,,till it will run on its own,,and yes,,ive used this extensively..and sure beats ehter,,as you dont have the slam knock factor...empty,,and flush the bottle,,with soapy water immed after use..the rubber seal,,doesnt like the fuel mix at all!!!

I do have fuel at the schrader valve, but it looks like crap to be honest. it was all brown

I bypassed the separator and attempted to replace the fuel filter, but i couldn't get it off.. It started up and died again after about 15 seconds each time. so its doing the same thing it did yesterday. Im thinking now its probably the IP. Does anyone know of a good place to get one of those?

OK now, hold on. You really need to get the filter off before you condemn the IP. I'm just sayin', a $30 filter vs. a $400 IP; it's worth a look at the filter. Did you try using an oil filter wrench? Your brown diesel makes me think of the junk that was in my filter after my '90 sat for almost a year...dumped it out, refilled with diesel, and it was good to go ;Sweet

It's very possible the IP is toast too, but either way you need a new filter if the truck has been sitting.

If the filter was jammed on there by some gorilla , you may end up having to remove the entire filter mount and stuff it in a HEAVY well mounted vice where you can get some serious leverage on it and go after it with a bad attitude . THose things can get stuck on there to where all any filter wrenches , including the nice ones with big jaws with teeth, will do nothing but collaps the blamed thing without budging it
Sometimes folks will put those things on without oiling the gasket, and then overtighten them to boot, they wont come off after that treatment by normal methods
I used to work at one truck company and we had this one super gorilla of a mechanic ( and I use the term loosely ) and EVERY single time I would have to go after this guy on a fuel filter he had changed, I would BREAK at least 3 filter wrenches trying to get the friggen thing off. There is just no excuse for that kind of crap:backoff, they dont need to be that tight

I was finally able to get the filter off, even with a filter wrench, that thing sucked! I put he new filter on filled with clean diesel, but my batteries were dead and the jumper wasnt helping this time. So ill give it another shot tomorrow

ok, i put the new fuel filter on and filled it with fresh diesel... and i got a good jump box t otry to start it. and it did the same as before... it would mostly never start... but occasionaly would turn ouver for a split second, smoke alot, and stall. i think its narrowed down to the IP. That seem legit to everyone else?

This is maybe a silly question, but when you're trying to start it, are you putting the pedal on the floor? After all the stuff you've been doing to the fuel system, there will be a lot of air in all the lines, and as far as I know you can't "flood" a diesel anyway. Sometimes pumping the pedal helps too. If you have indeed been flooring it while cranking, then it sounds like new IP time from everything you've posted.

I had treid both... it had only barely started when i had my foot to the floor though.
