I just bought a 1993 4x4 crew cab with a ats turbo. looks like an after market because the air cleaner says ATS not Ford. 5 speed 4.10 gears 137,000 miles on it
Anyone had an experience with extreme diesel out of wall nj?
I plan on doing head gaskets and injectors in the spring. Heads are seeping. Do the stud kits help or stop that?
Any head gaskets or stud brands better or ones to stay away from?
I have a gear venders Im going to put on it. I was wondering how much mpg will improve.

Welcome to the forum.. We recommend the ARP head studs. They seem to be the best on the market. The offer 2 types of studs for the 7.3 idi. One is an actual set and the other is a bulk set thats about 3/8 inch longer but they fit fine. Doing head gaskets with the engine in the truck is a very difficult job. To do it right takes three people to keep from damaging a gasket when the heavey heads are installed. Its much cleaner and nicer doing the job on an engine stand but be sure to use a stand that can support 2000 lbs.

yup been there done that on a 6.9 i had. I found that if i put the head in with no gasket first, while sitting in the engine bay(my body that is), i could lift the head and have a second person slip in head gasket in place the lower the head. Buy 2 or 3 sets of head gaskets so that way you only need 1set. Do you have a head gasket preference? What is a double fat mat? I want to get rid of the rug and go with a rubber mat myself. thanks for the help

Fat Mat is a sound deadener I applied to my doors and floors. Its the same as Dynamat but much cheaper. Just peal and stick it. I like Felpro but the Victor Reinz are what many like too.

Install a set of new Delphi BB code injecters. We recommend either typ4 aka Russ in Oregon or Mel aka agnem of conestoga Diesel in Pa. They both sell pop tested and matched BB code injecters. Another code of injecters is G codes but those are an emissions type injecter found on the turbo idi. Those were thought to make more mpg and hp but they sure don't. I ran them for many thousands of miles only to install a new set of Bb codes from Russ and found out the Bb codes were much better all the way around. Before that I was sure the G codes were the best. We live and learn. Before you wrench or buy anything please ask here what to do. We can save you doing a job twice and paying much more had you just asked. I have no dog in the fight either. Just another member thats seen most if not all the problems coming here for help. We are usually open day and nite here. Sleep is something the other do. We keep it up all nite long......:D

pm typ4 on here for a pop tested matched set of bb code injectors.
http://idiperformance.com/ has a pretty good price for ARP head studs for the 7.3. He runs the business on the side and is usually busy and behind, so take that into account.

Okay thanks for the help. Im flying to florida friday to pick up the truck. I had my close friend look at it when he was down there. He had a 94 and a 2000 himself. No rust. I bought it off of a son of the original owner. He had offers from landscapers but refused to sell it to them because it was his fathers truck and wanted it to go to someone who would take care of it. He is an Iraq vet. And my father had a 1994 2wd ext cab f 250 idi the same color. He even delivered the truck 40 miles to another friend of mines home a couple weeks ago for me. So I'm feeling really good about the whole transaction. And I get some time in sunny florida to visit friends and my father. Have a Merry Christmas to all. I'll report back when i get home next week.

wow that stud kits cheap i thought i seen before studs were around that they costed like 1000bucks? at that price everyone should be doing studs when they do head gaskets...

ive also done head gaskets with the engine in the truck... i used a cherry picker to hold the head and got it almost the right angle and set it on...

and it was not fun... couple bolts gotta be played with to get them in because of the heater box and what not
