New problem ! Head gasket ? *** !

Homeless... Please tell me where the leak appeared using the pic of the ruined head with the cut intake seat. I may have an idea if the leaky area is where I think it is...

Digital Torque Adapter

What kind of torque wrench did you use last time? I found out my click type torque wrench was 20 ft.lbs. out! That'll mess things up royally. Now I have a digital torque adapter like this:

That's awesome ! I'm ordering one tonight .

In the picture , you can see on the bottom right where the gasket didn't seal . It is the worst right under the rectangular coolant jacket .

I won't know if my homemade tool works until tomorrow .. Crossing my fingers

oops , forgot the picture. One sec..

Edit : In the picture it looks like the whole exhaust side isn't sealing , but its really only right between the exhaust valve and casting numbers .

I tried my homemade cylinder pressure tester out on the head I haven't removed . The tool itself seems to work .. I can't build pressure in any of the cylinders. I removed the rockers to close the valves but the air just blows out of the intake side of the head . Intake valves not seating ? One cylinder even made the water pump turn , which I know is a bad thing . I wasn't having issues with this head so these results are a surprise . It sounds like this engine is just a basket case that I should get away from . That's what I get for buying a used engine without hearing it run I guess .

Am I just missing something simple ?

Sounds like you have some issues. If building air pressure in the cylinders causes the water pump to move.. Well thats not good. And if no pressure will build because the air is getting past the intake valves.. Thats really not good either.. Any chance this engine had a set of head gaskets installed before you got it.. If so maybe someone didn't know to torque the heads correctly. What do you know about this used engine.. I was thinking that the leak may have been because one of the precupsstuck out of the head more than 5 1/2 thousands... That has happened before on another idi site. The owner felt he had to use thread sealant because water was coming up the head bolts and leaking out... turned out his precup stuck out of the head too much... The factory set is + or _ 2 1/2 thousands...

I bought the engine sitting in a shop with a "blown head gasket " . I pulled the heads , cylinders looked GOOD and I was super impressed with how it looked internally . I replaced both head gaskets . I did pull the valves , cleaned them , checked for straightness, replaced valve seals ..

I can't believe this head has issues.too . it was suppose to be the better side . I'm going to pull the head and have it checked out.. I have 3 7.3 heads that have been hot tanked and mag'ed if anyone needs a head .. 2 of them are factory turbo heads .

So when you removed and installed the valves did they return to the original seats. For an intake to be leaking thru sounds really odd because air pressure is pushing it closed. Without actually seeing this I;m not really able to say whats wrong.

I was very careful to place each valve ,spring , etc. into the same seats . I'm done with this engine I think .. I have too much time and money into it and I'm ready to cut my losses and move on . Plus I just brought home another truck
