New member, just purchased 1984 F250 6.9

[84 4x4]

Hi, new on board.
Truck is new to me, looks like its stock, manual 4 speed 4x4 with oversize tires.
Seems to put out a bit of black smoke when accelerating and climbing. Not on the level road.
Took it on a road trip and found it averages 16 MPG.

The turn signals are eating 15 amp fuses, replaced turn signal switch and flasher, didn't help, but it wasn't working right anyway.

Put a meter on it but no dead short, plus it is intermittent.

Want to know the most cluck for the buck to increase power and economy, if anyone has suggestions or links to posts covering this topic.
