I think the inlet to my IP was a solid connection, not an olive - is that what Kansasidi was talking about? We're talking about the line that runs from the filter to the center of the IP between all the injector lines, right?

If its a formed steel line, there's an olive under the connection nut. Was a factory installed part.

This is the hard line that runs from the lift pump up to the filter. There's a solid connection on the fitting that actually goes into the filter head, but a nut attaches the line to that fitting. The olive's underneath that nut.

Classic Diesel Designs sells a real nice kit to delete the hard line from filter to IP and it's only about 45 minutes to install. Worth it in my opinion.

I ordered it! Modified the lift pump to filter line myself. When the new line comes I'll install that and try a new filter and post the results. Still chugging after fixing the one line. So frustrating!

Update: installed new line from filter to IP and no improvement. The needle on fuel pressure gauge I installed on the kit bounces all over the place and is mostly unreadable. It seems to be in the 4-5 psi range at idle and drops down to 2-3 when I rev it up. I just bought a standard cheap analog gauge, what do I need instead? And are those pressures adequate? Getting so frustrated that I'm close to giving up on this truck. Recap: after replacing IP, lift pump, injectors, and return lines, it sputters and chokes when cruising under 2000 rpm but idles and accelerates smoothly. What did I get wrong? Or what new part isn't working properly?

4-5 sounds right but the dip at wide open throttle sounds too low. Could be a fuel starving issue.

Thanks. I'll start going back toward the tanks from there. I wonder if my new lift pump is weak and that's been my problem the whole time. I took it out and reinstalled it once in case I had the arm on the wrong side of the lobe. I'll go look for air leaks first, I guess. Maybe try a different new fuel filter too?

I dont think fuel filter would necessarily cause that. I have a 10 micron I installed on the suction side near my fuel tank selector valve, then I have the one at the engine. I'm also running the mechanical lift pump and I see 5-6 normally.

Could be your new pump is defective out of the box, or your cam lobe is no longer a lobe

Where? Back by the tank? Or up front? Leave the lift pump connected or bypass it? What pressure should I be shooting for?

I've been reading all the posts about electric pumps - a lot to figure out! I'm leaning toward the Moose Diesel kit so I don't have to figure out which parts work together. Or would Russ's booster kit be OK? I'm not having a priming problem, the truck starts right up

I have a holley electric fuel pump on my turbo engine. I dont use a relay or a fuel pressure regulator.
