Im getting a Promar rebuilt engine.
1-I was trying to find a new injection pump drive gear. Does anyone know of a source and a part number?
2-I'm going to put new o-rings and clean out oil cooler.
3-New water pump.
4-I cant decide on block heater. If new motor comes with a freeze plug in the hole a may leave it and get a tank type heater.
5-I know only rtv on oil pan

Any other advise on assembly would be appreciated

I'm in delran, 08075. I'm sure I have one. I have a nearly whole motor sitting here but I'm not sure which part you're looking for. Is it the gear inside the oil fill tube that bolts to the IP? If so you can have it today if you want to drive down.

I should have said I was looking for a new injection pump drive gear not used. Sorry for the confusion.

I've got two of those drive gears used. Also have a new gear that's attached to a new cam.

Why do you want a NEW gear?

I'd bet you can't tell the difference between a USED and a NEW one.

Why the stigma of a NEW IP drive gear? No reason to have NEW gear, the crank in the engine isn't NEW the block isn't new the rods are not new....I doubt the drive gears for cam and crank and oil pump are new either...so why such a stigma?

Just really really curious...

I figure the reason for a new gear is the o p wants the gear to match the hopefully new cam and crank gears. I too am not sure those gears will be new when the engine gets there. but maybe the promar guy told him it will be all new gears. About all I can suggest is to make sure the cam gear does not have the drilled removal holes in it. thats the older non balanced gear that causes an imbalance at idle that comes and goes about every 7 seconds.

i would think that any reputable engine builder would supply this gear, new or used.
its prettymuch a vital part.
i wouldnt use a new IP gear on a used cam gear, or vice versa.
either all new, or all used gears from the same engine.
a wear pattern is going to happen, theres a reason they sell you a RING and PINION, when rebuilding a rearend.
its pretty much the same concept.
when building a gasser with a flat tappet cam, you would never use used lifters on a new cam.
its just asking for problems.
you may get lucky, but i wouldnt gamble on a fresh rebuild

Exactly. Promar didn't say either way,I just assumed it would be new. Thanks for the heads up on the old gear. If you got pics that would be helpful too.

There is very little chance the gears would be new in a remanned engine to be honest. Most remanned are built from cores like the one you will likely send in.Parts are cleaned and inspected and could be magnafluxed and then cleared for use in an engine. I highly doubt the gears are new. Pistons yes, rings, bearings and maybe an oil pump, maybe lifters, cam, but rods, block crank, and gears are all likely a used component.

I agree on the ring and pinion example but the IP gear is not a bevel type and won't have the same wear-in. I wouldn't worry about installing a used one that was in good condition.

I put a Promar 7.3 in my 90 back in 08, pretty sure it came with the IP gear and cover. You would have to dismantel the front end to make sure the gears are timed. Mine was a long block.

Are you getting a short block or a long block?

You must be registered for see images attach

This is the older cam gear. See the drilled and threaded holes to remove it. Well the new balanced better gear does not have these holes but it has the triangle holes. Those are where you turn inside out the 3 jaw puller legs and insert them thru those to remove the gear. Its a tuff press fit and the bolt torque us surprisingly low at 25 lbs.
