Hey I recently just added this to my pickup. I gained about 2mpg and a noticable difference in sound and accel.

I would like to do something like this in the future, though I would like to use a NAPA 6637 filter (thats what powerstroke guys use in there DIY setups). Huge filters probably for some ag equipment.

Dont see how sucking hot underhood air is a cold air induction kit. Wheres the cooler denser air?

The tube is made out of 4in radiator hose bought at international. the filter is a sperctre brande can be bought at Oreillys. I figured nothing would insulate better than radiater hose. The heat issue isnt much of a problem cause its close to the fender.

Err, all the air under the hood has passed through the radiator and is pre heated, regardless of where under the hood it might happen to reside, hence the previous poster's question about sucking hot underhood air qualifying as a cold air intake .
You would have to run the tube to the outside for it to be a cold air induction. As it stands it is simply a different type of air filter assembly, and trust me running a real cold air induction makes a huge difference, expecially something like a Hypermax Cowl induction

well for the sake of agument purporses well call it a c.t.i.w.a.i.(colder than it was air intake. satisfied Its away from the engine quite abit and at the very least doesnt get as much heat off it. I have an k&n air filter c.a.i. and all it does is relocate the filter further away and shields it and they call it a c.a.i. so im callin this one too. But i see ur point

Now it wouldn't take much from there to make it a cold air induction. you have a thin spot in the hood right about over where the filter is, all you need to do is mount a reverse hood scoop over the thing ( point the opening toward the windshield more steady pressure that way, less water) , drill out enough of the hood to make for the volume of the scoop, build a sheetmetal box that wraps up under the filter and meets the hood with a rubber seal and put a water drain in a low spot , make sure to run a sheet metal baffle over the filter to deflect water to the drain, then you would have a very effective cold air induction, and it would look pretty cool to boot

I would just try to route the factory air line from the grille and cut it off right where it meets the filter. That way it gets cold air. Drilling the body scares me

The only real way that i have found to be a suitable means for a cold air intake system is a hood scoop of some sort. Make your own, fab it to a stock hood and make a sealed air box for it, or get a fiberglass cowl one that LMC sells, and do the same. Trying to get a decent flowing intake pipe up through the radiator and grill is a major PITA and in my case I no longer have any room for anything up there with my huge ass intercooler and piping and all that good stuff. lol
