My Autolite SUCCESS Story!

So I bought the truck in my sig many years ago from the original owner with 150k miles on it. Years later I was cleaning out the glovebox looking for something and I find a box of some unused Autolight glowplugs. My stomach sank to the bottom of my feet and I knew that someday I would have to deal with this. Luckily that day was not the day. Years pass and I forget about my impending nightmare until the temperature drops and I have to deal with super long starts and a wts light that goes out in an instant. Every year I put off pulling the glowplugs knowing I will end up dealing with broken tips and having to pull the heads. Fast forward several winters and we are now just starting to get cold here. Truck is already not wanting to start in the mornings and its real ******* my batteries starter and patience. So I said screw it. If I had some break then I guess I'm pulling my heads off tonight oh well. So I start pulling them out cringing every time I pull one out expecting to get a broken glowplug. I get through all eight without an issue and upon further inspection none of the glowplugs look like they have ever heated up! These autolites are so bad they looked like they didn't even function out of the box! Lucky for me....

I have a friend that buys car parts when a shop closes. He saved me a bunch of autolite glow plugs. I politely declined them.

lol i knew how this story had to end based on the title.the only success one can have with autolite gp's is that they all come out.

When my OEM Ford/Beru's would start going bad (from new Truck purchase 1978) I replaced them with Champions...and did so for many-many-many years. When one would burn out I replaced it with another...never any issues getting them out and never saw a swollen tip. If anything the tip area at-times would be thinner like eroded away?
I never used Autolites or Bosh.
Went back to Beru's about 5+ years ago, what I did notice, out of the package Beru's are indeed a little thicker then the Champs...when removing a burned out Beru I have had a few that were slightly bent/warped and that sure did scare the cr*p out of me feeling the resistance getting them out.

I had to replace mine in my 85 f250 wednesday night to take it for Thanksgiving. I had to order them from O'Reilley's 70 miles away. I had four new ones in the glove box so I ordered four more. As I was replacing them, I had to say "where the h@ll did this Champiom glow plug come from?" I don't know where I got it. Even worse, I was carrying it around in the glove box for a spare! I thought I had four zd1a's. I had to put it in so I could make the trip, but am getting another zd1a in there quick.
