Since Iv'e been messing with GP's I thought about dissecting one and see how there made. Messed up the first one, second came out pretty good.
If you look close to the heat coil in the "shell" closely, you can see the grounding end of the coil at the tip. The long rod and coil are insulated with a thin coat of something (white stuff). There is NO O'ring in these for sealing, only the Green plastic seal at the top.

The assembled GP how the rod goes just inside the coil, you can see like threads on therod end, the B+ end of coil wire must of been spot welded to rod, rod and coil where not connected, must have been where it burned out.

Also here is three of the Bosch GP's that swelled when testing Wellman vs Bosch , on the far right one, there is a small tip protruding, possibly the ground end of the heat coil.

I don't have any of the other Brands to dissect, all the Wellmans I have are good.

Nice work Bill. I'm betting that white stuff is the magnetic oxide and its a heat transfer agent. Really can't be a heat insulator..

Gary, that magnesium oxide is an electrical insulator and a heat transfer, otherwise the rod (cold pin) would be a dead short to ground.
The pic Montanajack shows above, shows an O'ring seal, the Bosch does NOT have one, but the rod is knurled and coated with what appears to be RTV at the top, under the (green plastic seal). The Wellman claims they have an O'ring seal. Look at this pic, you can see some black stuff just below the green seal.

I'm going to disect one of the Wellman just to compare the guts. IDIoit wants to know.

Stay tuned. Begining to feel like the Mith Busters.

Could they be rebuilt in any way that would be reliable????
Since I would bet everyone on the OB has about 2 dozen of these burnt out sitting somewhere.
(I've got a bunch)

Are you sure those are motorcraft/beru? I have never seen one with a green insulator. I replace a few sets of plugs per month, and those really dont look like motorcraft plugs to me:dunno

They are the same Brand Wellman. I got mine on ebay from Bostic Motors as the Vendor.

or these?

or are they the same?

(i think they are the same)
They don't say they are Wellman, but do say they are the only USA manufactured, that would be Wellman. The Box pic is the same as I got the Wellmans in.

Thank you Thank you You are correct. They are Bosch.

I pulled a BIG SNAFU. Now I have to go back and correct the threads, if I can. I have no idea they were Bosch. Should have read the stamping. I have never knowingly bought anything but Motorcraft/Beru. Some years ago, I bought all that Azone had in stock when they discontinued selling the M/B GP's. I still have a bunch left, will have to check them.
Had to get out my magnifying glass to read the stamping.

I apologize for the wrong info.
