400hp or below I typically recommend the 3582, and the T04Z does anything above that really well, either turbo will be more responsive than the p trim hypermax you already have. What kind of power can the 3582 and to4z support. Truck would have to be able to tow heavy so lag is a concern. Would the 3582 bolt up to the kit I currently have if not what would be required to make it work
You should give a pump with a proper fuel curve a shot before swapping your idi out, the last bull moose I ran made ~100cc around 1500 engine rpms but only 70cc at hp peak, so I could see why you would have power/heat issues with all the fuel being at a lower rpm.not sure what you are towing and how heavy, but it seems when you really work a tuned up idi they get hot and you always gotta let off the throttle. at least in my experience.
im not a die hard cummins guy by any means but its the easiest diesel to get and make good power that you can use.
i got a ford/new holland 7.8 going in my f350 some day so i can tow what i tow with the dodge, at highway speeds up hill lol.
my 98 durge and 45' toy hauler. camper is a about 14K empty.

I especially like your westcoast mirrors and 'flaps-only' haul chassis.
The stock injectors will work at these power levels. Generally, a good turbo will be way more beneficial than a cam change. As for the shaved pistons, it's kind of up to you. If you are going to tear the engine completely apart, then it wouldn't hurt to have .010" removed, but it isn't a have to do thing as long as your valve clearances are within spec. If you're just going to do add ons, then there is no way that you could have the pistons shaved. If you go as far as to remove the pistons for shaving, then it would be best to have the block bored and start fresh with new pistons and bores. Is it required? No, but since you have the engine this far apart, you may as well get the longest life possible out of it. Of course, if you are going to run a bigger cam, then the pistons may need to be milled or you could buy decompressed pistons. All decomp pistons are is pistons that have the wrist pin bore made closer to the top of the piston which makes the piston sit farther down from the head.Is a cam worth it for an idi like a r&d stage 1 cam. Same with the injectors will stock ones work just fine at 325-350hp. Should the piston be shaved to lower compression or is the stock compression find for this hp range.
