Might need a new Turbo

My truck has been down on power latley, and I haven't been able to put my finger on why. I used to be able to shut the truck down, get out, walk aound the rear of the truck and hear the turbo whinding down out of the tailpipe well today I tried that and it ws stopped by the time I was at the tailpipe. SO i revved it up pretty good to get the turbo to spool up, and still didn't hear it.

I will be looking more into it tomorrow, prolly take off the air box (no easy task) and spin it by hand. I will post back what I find, but I am thinking that it is turbo rebuild time.

My truck was down on power too after a month with the new turbo, had less turbo whine and low boost, changed fuel filter, problem solved, It could be simple. mine was.

Darrin I think you can remove the rubber elbow intake hose without removing the entire airbox. I'd try that before I removed the whole thing. Removing the elbow will give youaccess to the impeller. Good Luck. Russ

Not to sound like a smart A$$, but wouldn't the boost gauge tell you more than anything? When I first saw the post title I looked left expecting to see Jim Madden's name. I'd say the turbo on the Moose Truck is done within 3 seconds of shut down, but then it's a hypermax and not a Banks, so it probably doesn't spin as fast at idle as yours does (or did )

Well the turbo is fine, the Rubber Elbow was the problem, the clamp came off that was attached to the box, and was loosing pressure. I removed it to get to the impeller, and it spins freeley with no end play, so I think we are good to go!

I will see how it performs on the way home tonight.

Mel I did notice my boost numbers were down, but really haven't been paying attention to it latley.

Prolly time to change the Fuel Filter as well.

You gotta like those easy fixes!

I think you should not take any chances with that turbo. Its probably bad. Remove it immediately and ship it to me ( I'll pay shipping) and I'll install it on my 6.9.

And this was the NEW boost hose, right?

Uhh the elbow hose is the air intake hose. The small one is the boost side. Might want to check that little one if you're losing boost.
