I know just where the dipstick is at. I have been running it on the bottom of the hash marks. Thanks for this advice riphip and snicklas. I will un-plumb one or the other. it ran fine on the 1-2psi Facet. I thought the db2 wanted about 2 psi?

I found time after salvaging a diesel ranger oil pan and motor mounts tonight to nudge the timing ahead (towards the passenger side). It seems to have made a noticeable improvement i.e. less smoke at idle and off-loading. Naturally brought the idle up. It's running more tamely, almost smoothly, which makes me happy. May be it's the higher idle that makes it sound more tame at idle. I like the idle there, around 900 according to the dash. dunno. Anyway, less smoke is good. I can still get lots of black if I try.

The mitsu 4d55 ranger has an epump before the bosch ve. I wonder why the heck so since the vane pump is adequate in all the other configurations I've seen. may be its because of this crazy elaborate filter mechanism. None on my 4d56. Wonder what the specs are on the pump.

so smoke went up when I plumbed the two presumably because of an increase in pressure. Running on the two with the pump advanced, less smoke. Almost tolerable.

Pump is probably having to work harder now without the lift. lol I unwired it leaving it pumbed. but atleast the risk of pumping in with that pump is mitigated.
Didn't leak and so far reliable. It doesn't use that much oil.. exactly I donno yet. still a blue smoke during slight backing off accelerator but much improved. smells like a diesel but at least it doesn't stink ha. 315k KM on itwith a rebuilt pump at some point. Nothing like the 500k on another fellas. just a bit more abused.

...but, this is it towing:

I'd like to return the filter housing fuel return line into service but am afraid of leaks at injector return orings etc, because of elevating the return before I get on the ínjector kit"
