Makin it a plow truck

I'm contemplating putting a plow on the 93 to plow our church parking lot and the cabin (read lots of snow)
Who plows with their pickup Ashlee the old frame holding up?

I plow with mine. You may have a hard time finding a mount for the plow. Some manufacturers don't make a mount to fit the diesels since the radiator support hangs down in the way. I custom made my mount.

Trucks are excellent snow removal tools. With that being said, FORD would void warranties when plows were put on OBS Crewcab trucks. Not saying I even heard of one failing, just putting that info out there.

For a frame.(if going on one of your crewcabs) you will need one from a 92-97 F350,F350,F450 gas or diesel does NOT matter

I'm not certain about the 92+ trucks, but, I know for 91 down, not all brands of plow frame fit a diesel easily, I've had to re-build a Boss per their instructions for a 91, and my buddy's Meyer on his 86 only fit because he had a 3" body lift.

Used to drive an F250 every winter plowing snow. It was the big gun of the companies plow vehicle. I've moved 8ft tall piles with it like they weren't even there.

Thx Brad. I wonder what the rationale was in voiding warranties on crewcabs w/ plows?

That one I can answer for you. They did that because most of the OBS CCs were sold to fleet units that they knew would be used hard. Adding a plow almost in guaranteed in the minds of the Ford bean counters that they would be liable for multiple transmission replacements and engine repairs. Also remember this was the first years for the E4OD and they were terribly weak back in the beginning. The bean counters knew this and didn't want the lost money.

I guess that makes sense from Fords point of view. My 10' Durasmack was the same way, warranty voided if I slapped a plow on it. I can't remember if my Dodge Cummins was that way too

my boss plow mount dont fit cause of the diesel radiator. Im going to to have to modify the mount to make it work

I've never seen a Boss that was a direct fit for our vintage diesel trucks. I gave up trying to find a decent plow mount that was a direct fit years ago. I would usually crawl the scrap yards and fine a frame that someone scrapped because it was bent and strip all the parts I needed. I've made three or four frames completely from scratch over the years and it's not to much of a headache.

western made a uni-mount model plow for our trucks. I might even have a mount left over for a ford diesel I can check western parts pile from out plow selling days if you wish. my 94 has had a plow since new. pushes like a champ but I always plow the heavy snow in 4low.

Part of it was you were over the front axle GVW putting a plow on and the other part is that is ALOT of frame to be pushing and they my have be worried about it bending

I didn't realize you were plowing with a crewcab. I don't think you would have any problem with it holding up, but what a pain trying to maneuver that thing around tight places. When I back out into the main highway to open up the entry to our church lot, I have to wait till traffic clears in two lanes of a 4 lane highway. With a crewcab I would have to block the complete highway to get started.

I didn't realize you were plowing with a crewcab. I don't think you would have any problem with it holding up, but what a pain trying to maneuver that thing around tight places. When I back out into the main highway to open up the entry to our church lot, I have to wait till traffic clears in two lanes of a 4 lane highway. With a crewcab I would have to block the complete highway to get started.

Yea it's not ideal. In a perfect world I'd sell the Crewcab and get a regular cab, but I have the truck and it's starting to grow on me a little. I've been watching Clist for plows and good lord even the used ones around here are going for a small fortune. My dad and I have really wanted a 30'ish HP 4x4 tractor for some time. For not much more than a darn plow for the F350 I can get into a nice said tractor and it would serve year round duty of snow removal in winter at the cabin (and church) and in the summers it would get well used for various projects at the cabin and our lake. Very tempting

A pickup is WAY FASTER for clearing snow, but that is all the plow can do. The tractor is more versatile
