Make your own?

I have been using BD Power X-chips for quite a while now. Does anyone know if these are just simple EEproms? Are they hard to duplicate? They sure look simple enough. Would it be worth starting a do it yourself project to make these?

most eeproms have a calt number on them to order the same blanks as what chip programmers use/ motorola/hyundai/siemens/sony/ etc
