These are all good suggestions. The valve cover gaskets dried all out anyway.

I've definitely seen that on gas burners. Went from a quart every 40 miles to every 700 by cleaning the oil drains in a 360.

And it wouldn't take much sludge to block the lower oil drains on the heads on these things and have oil pooling up around valve stems.
