lost bolts

I am replacing my IP, return lines and injectors with my 4yr old "helping" me and he flipped my parts tray off the truck and the only thing I had left on there were the 3 5/16 bolts for holding the timing gear to the pump. spent 1 1/2 hours looking for them and they are GONE in the grass. I need to know if I can just pick up new ones or are they made out of unobtainum. Also are they fine or coarse thread and what grade bolt should I be looking for? Any help appreciated and let me know if you know anybody looking to buy a slightly oversized 4 yr old boy.

So you are basically missing the IP mounting bolts? (IP to Timing cover)

Ip to timing gear are what he lost. If you can't find them local PM me. I'll pull them from a spare pump.

I've got the three bolts sitting on my desk. I believe they are a grade eight myself. If you try to source them locally I would recommend using bolts with an Allen drive on them.

Borrow a magnet that rolls over the grass like roofers use to pick up nails. You will find them very quickly.

I'll look for them with my father's metal detector later right now I just want to get this done so I'll go and get me some new ones. Why allen drive, if they freeze in there, would you be able to get the leverage with an allen wrench? Thanks for the suggestions.

Go to nappa and buy the universal joint repair kits. those are the same bolt as the missing injection drive gear bolts. They come in a kit with the u joint straps. Same length too. Any wrecking yard will have them under any Ford truck too.... Its great that members here have stepped up to help out a fellow oilburner in trouble... Ya can't beat that with a stick can ya....

Guess I was confused by this, thought the gear to pump bolts were what was left after the flip. I'm pretty certain I've got a couple sets as well if you can't find anything let me know and I'll pull them out and send them to ya. Just wasn't sure if that was all you had after the parts tray flip or all you needed!

For posterity, they are 12 point head, 5/16-24 x 3/4 long. That is fine thread. All 12 point (head) screws are stronger than grade 8 anyway so you don't have to ask. Don't replace them with allen (socket head) screws unless left no alternative, they would be tough (PITA) to install and remove. Strength is about the same, though.

I have some on a spare pump if you need yet another free set.

You can definitely tell who has all the spare parts lying around on this site. Of course than there is icanfixall who probably has another entire truck hidden behind his seat somewhere. He just needs some way to get it out from behind the seat.

Here ya go brimstone...... Now ya just know I'm teasing you. Yes, I have way too many spares. A spare engine. A set of heads... A spare wastegated banks turbo... Two spare hypermax intercoolaers. A spare Gear Vendors. Two sets of valve job gasket sets for a 7.3 and one for a 6.9. All new engines internals.. Vacuum pumps behind the seat with pulley. Tensioner plus three serpentine belts... that I don't know why I have those back there... Only need one...Two hydroboosts. An abs brake or whatever they call them. Hey I have currently 73 jeeps in several different place up in northeast ohio and northwestern PA. Currently 8 IDIs down here and 4 more possible ones. 3 suburbans. My bronco and more parts floating around than I know what to do with. I currently have a barn in northeast PA filled with all my spare parts and odd tools not to mention my big Pete 379 longnose wrecker. As to spares behind the seat when I was driving my 78 Dodge PU I carried behind the seat a complete gasket set, oil pump, complete set of bearings, and a complete rebuild kit for the transmission. It was a 318 gasser with a 727 automatic. Needless to say why I kept spare parts. I also kept three ballast resistors in the glove box just in case.
