My brother bought a 1992 ford 250 with a 7.3 beautiful truck. we went over this truck and rebuilt the front end new steering box all ujoints door hinges every brake part.got it right where we wanted it. never even got to drive it and the engine starting mixing the oil and water. so we pulled it apart and carried it to our engine builder and this thing is just shot.now i am trying to find an engine but need some reliable sources or a good used one, i do not mind spending the money for a good drop in ready to run job, because we are deep in money wise anyway, the old engine had so many miles on it i would be scared to buy a long block and swap over the old parts as i do not know the condition. any help would be appreciated i am dying to get this thing on the road. will post a pic of the truck soon thanks billy.

Ive got a complete block, minus the heads you could have for cheap. It ran when it was pulled but I havent had a chance to do much with it.

If you can afford it you should probably go drop in. It would save time and money in the long run. If you were to go with a long block than swith the IP over and other stuff the IP and other stuff you switched over could go bad at any time.

From everything that I had heard, you want to stay away from those rebuild. Everyone that I have seen has had problems with a sloppy rebuild techniques. This is just my experience though.

My dad's truck has a Reviva drop-in engine in it. It runs nice and doesn't use oil. It feels a bit low on power, but that may just be me
I haven't driven a strong/new IDI in 15+ years. Reviva seemed to have a good reputation from the little bit of checking I did.

There was a guy on FTE who went through 3 of those reviva 7.3 motors in 24k miles before giving up on them. The sleeves in the cylinders kept dropping.

You should probably buy a block from gonecrayzi and then rebuild it as you want it. There used to be a place in Orange Park called Diesel Direct, I don't know if they have gone under or if they're still around. They had good parts cheap, but a bit of a mixed reputation with customer service. Icanfixall has dealt with them so he may be able to fill you in with better info on them. Promar has a pretty good reputation as well. I'd be curious to meet up sometime you aren't really that far away.

I have bought plenty from Diesel Direct. Its true of their then customer service. Sometimes it was fine... Other times it wasn't. I found the prices there great. About 4 years ago they had several pallets of rebuilt turbo rods for $42.00 each.. No core charge...
That was a steal so I bought some.... Ford was around twice that price.... I bought three sets of Mahle pistons from them to along with rods and main bearings.... At the time nobody could beat their prices...

Get the block and build your own engine (or have it built) with parts you have supplied. And spend the money to have the rotating mass balanced, it is worth every cent.
Rebuilt engines are OK if the source is well known to you, but they all use generic parts to keep down the cost and that are engineered to last as long as the warranty. But not a lot longer.
