little trouble starting

doesnt want to fire right away when its been sitting for a couple of hours, have to get it started with a shot of ether. just got it running again yesterday. its been sitting since early winter. its got fresh fuel in it.

check for fuel leaks and test your glow plugs. most likely fuel leaks. how many miles are on it>?

Pull the fuel filter off and see how much duel is in the filter. It should be full and if it is not it could be your lift pump AKA fuel pump. If it is less than full leave the filter off and give the truck a quick crank to see if fuel is coming out of the threaded part of the duel filter head. No fuel equals a bad pump.

When you have the filter off also instead of putting that filter back on, put a new one on. Before putting a new filter on fill it with clean fresh diesel then install it.

atf will work also and so will diesel fuel additives

right now it doenst have functioning glow plugs.

If the glow plugs are not functioning it will not start unless the block heater was plugged in for a really long time or you use a shot of ether.

Have you pulled the fuel filter yet?.

If the fuel filter is full that lack of glow plugs not functioning is the problem. The IDI still needs the glow plugs after it has been sitting for a few hours although not as long of a burn time.

Nahh, If the motor is in good running order, you won't need glow plugs after the motor is run for probably 6-8 hours. At least, my old 6.9 didn't. I used them anyway once I got some new Beru's, but it had Autocrap's in there before and I dared not use them until they were replaced.

fuel filter seemed good. cracked it and fuel started pouring out, havent taken it all the way off yet, will do later this week when i have time, also replacing the return line to the filter. the back half of the injector is wet, could it be leaking and causing the issues?
