lift pump install question

does the engine need to be at TDC in order to install the lift pump properly? Does that line up the eccentric cam with the pump arm?

I don't think it matters where the engine is in its rotation. When I did it, it just slipped in. You have to make sure the arm is against the cam, and it may need to be compressed a bit to get the holes in the housing to line up.

the fuel pump comes with directions or it should about how to install it many here say there is only one way to install it or damage will occur but I've never gotten a reason as to why this is just make sure you get the arm below the cam and all should be good

will the engine sound different if you install it incorrectly? I would think that there would be only one way to install it too, and that as long as it was installed correctly, it would automatically be under the cam. Maybe not EXACTLY under the cam but at some point it would. I think I got it close the last time I installed it but the van's been sidelined so long that I wouldn't remember what it sounded like before hand. And for all I know it always sounded like that I just wasn't paying attention. Pain in the ass...

now would be a good time to install a holley red, pick up a big block chevy fuel pump block off plate and put the holley as close to the fuel tank as practical, you'll never regret it
