here's a hint to save you a ton of heartache.
before you go ordering parts for your Dana 80, get the build numbers off the axle tube on the passenger side tube between the shock mount and the carrier housing.
****warning***** Dana 80's made for Ford F450 Superduties from 1988 to 1997 are very different from ANY OTHER MAKES.
many parts do not interchange. I do not do my own rearend work. It is farmed out to a shop around the corner from me and it's known as "Rearend Specialties". The original owner and I have been friends since 1987 when I was still racing my Buick. That car was almost impossible to get rear axle parts for. When I got into F450's I already knew what I was up against in modifying gearing.
There are many armchair mechanics who will tell you anything you want to hear. I have learned many of my lessons by actually ordering parts that had a one-way ticket. If it didn't' fit, I got stuck with it.
The reason why you see so many armchair mechanics tell you good stories, is because of the hybrid dana 70/80 rearends found in many dodge pickups from 1994-2001. they do have the numberically lower option, BUT nothing will easily interchange between the Ford and the Dodge.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that it is impossible. Anything is possible if you want to spend some serious $$$$$$.
certain E450 dualies have the gearing package you are looking for and with two extra bonuses. one. a bolt patter identical to your pre '99 8-lug wheels! two. disc brakes with intergrated emergency brake. modifications must be made in locating the spring pads and shock mounts.
Rich/94f450sd has installed the F350 version in his truck and is a real life example that this does exist and does work.
if you own a F450 and are willing to travel to obtain a axle to experiment on, I have six of them that I am willing to part with at scrap metal prices since that is what they will be worth at the end of 2014 in kali. contact me if you are serious in wanting one. this is for pick-up only. I do not have the time or energy to pallet up these for shipping. please don't ask.
