Keeping the Pupscilces Warm in the bed

It's starting to get nippy on the northern tier. While I could open the window to the bed and let the pooches get some cab heat the reason I have them in the bed is that they fart up a storm while travelling.

I want to put in some sort of coolant fired radiator in the bed to keep the temps above freezing in the camper shell for them.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good solution for this? A 12v fan of some sort to circulate heat, on it would be nice. I was thinking of a school bus rear heater but it would take alot of space.

you could just get an electric cooling fan and mount a heater core behind it. just make an encloser for it and you should be set. now if you fould an old heater box out of a trk you would be set.

I have an 800w inverter - I'd need to look at wattage ratings on electric blankets.

A rear heater from an e-series van would work pretty decently, Seen that done before.
A rear heater unit form a Toyota 4-runner would also work pretty decent too, it pretty much is the back part of the center console on those, won't take up very much space at all. It'll be a bit low on BTU for keeping the bed toasty warm, but, it would probably keep it habitable for the dogs.

I was looking at the heaters folks put in enclosed tractor cabs, 20k btu units with 12v fans looks like they cost about 175-200.

Maybe I can find a tractor graveyard to yank one from...

Just go get a Honda radiator. They're about 16'X16"

Consumer grade inverters do NOT like inductive loads. Basically anthing with a heating element. Hair dryers, curling irons, electric blankets... etc.

Yeah, I'd be cautious of anything electrically power or even coolant related in the back if you have pooches that like to chew if they get bored.

A good heavy blanket or 2 would work fine or straw for that matter.

If the electric don't zap em, the coolant would certainly shut their kidneys right down.

Not worried about them chewing. BTW I have a veterinary degree and worked animal emergency for a number of years. Dogs get frostbitten and mine are short haired - they need more than a blanket. Anyway thanks for all the suggestions, when I rig something up I'll post pics.

One thing that I thought of is either the mid or rear under-seat heater out of a school bus. The mid heater isnt that big, and the rear is much larger and may be overkill. They are pretty much self contained units... just run 12v and coolant lines to them....
