Ok acouple weeks ago I was goin Through fuel real fast and it was gettin hard to start well that turned out to be all the injector cup o-rings leaking very badly.i got all the fixed and had no more leaks so I drove it for acouple days and ran outta fuel.so I switched tanks which I knew had a couple gallons in and got home.the next day I went an drive in the field again and ran out agian which was probley my fault.so we went and got fuel and I got 19 gallons.i filled the front tank and the back tank outta that 19 gallons.so I know my my back tank had 16 or 17 gallons still in it but It wouldn't pick up.i went and drove again today off the front tank and I've probley drove 40 miles on that tank and guess what outta fuel agian.got more fuel and it didn't take much to fill it up maybe 5 or 7 gallons.you could still hear fuel in the front tank if you shook the truck.so my question is could the pick up tube be broke off in both really high up.and btw my fuel gauges don't work so I'm sure how much I have when it quits

Man, I can tell you this outta all my work on cars and trucks and generally anything mechanical, basically anything can happen. Your pick-ups could be broken off, or your pump could be sucking air somewhere, or whatever. Anything is possible, man. Not really helpful, but hey, it's true.

*Hold on... So, you're fuel gauge is not working for either tank? How do you know you're FSV is functioning? What I mean is, how do you know that you are pulling fuel from the tank you are selecting?

My FSV was pulling fuel from one tank and returning it to the other at one point... It seems it was only partially opening and closing allowing fuel to go to back to whichever tank was the easiest to flow to. May be a good place to start looking for signs of a problem. It could be leaking as well which would be a sure sign of it being time to remove it and throw it as far as you can away from your truck. Accidentally dropping a sledge hammer on it works too....

If it isnt your fsv it is more than likely broken pickups. It is a common problem with these trucks. Drop the tanks , remove whatever is left of the plastic "shower heads" , instead of replacing them just slip some quality fuel line over the pick up tube , secure with hose clamps. Be sure to cut a V notch in the bottom of the hose so that it doesn't suction itself to the bottom of the tank. Also a great time to clean out the tanks.

I'm pretty sure it's not the fsv because it pulls from the tank you select and say you run off te front tank and have the back tank filled up it doesn't over fill it.im hopin in acouple days were gonna check the pickup tubes out

Homelessduck's suggestion is a good place to start, but the plastic shower heads get brittle and fall off the bottom of the sender leaving you with 3/4 tank. You're report is saying you had 19 in the rear and 5-7 gals from full on the front when you ran out. I would definitely second his recommendation because it fixes that issue and gives you the chance to clean out the tanks and senders while you're at it.

I don't think this is going to solve your problem unless you are WAY off regarding the amount of fuel in tank when you ran out. The senders can't in most cases break. They are metal and are suspended in the middle of the tank. There is nothing to break them.

Unless they rust out and break apart or the pickup tube itself splits...
