Is anyone playing with compressor housings and wheels? Where's the garret and MHI pro

So I'm just simply curious if anyone out there is maybe simply modding other compressor wheels and housings on the kits produced for these trucks??

Any airesearch/garrett or MHI experts around?

im aware anything over 10psi on stock motor/studs/gaskets lacks any practicality in the form of reliability.....it might blw up.....need the pump to keep up..... head gaskets are an issue, etc

just stretching my br in for the day looking for a little more knowledge on the garrets/airesearch and MHI

Typ4 here is doing some work there with upgraded housings. He seems to be the go to guy for the ATS stuff because he bought most of the NOS parts that exist. He would probably be the guy to talk to about it.

Either Russ or Mel would be my recommendations for any turbo upgrades like you ask about. Might check R&D too. Justin has done some interesting things with the idi turbos.

using SEARCH function here will give many results. There are literally dozens of threads about IP's, turbos, cams, studs, you name it it has been discussed. Even super on top of turbo, coumpound turbo, twin tur o and yes fancy schmancy wheels and housing mods.

can you dream it up.....likely been a topic here...

Riotwarrior: I've fixed my first diesel truck, without even hearing it run, with that search button! I know where it is hahah but things change constantly, we figure out new things everyday, and more than anything I want to focus strictly on the compressor wheels and housings.

Yes I do compressor mods. some are proven to work, some are proven not to work.

The one that I sell during the rebuild. bigger wheel, machine the comp housing, helps boost come in lower.

Is that only an option on your ats-kit turbos? Is the ats your preference when compared to the other kit options?

Russ did the compressor mod on my non wastegated Banks and it made a real nice difference.
2-3 lbs. down low, 1000-1400 rpm., and from there it spools very fast, ******* my 15 lb. boost gauge.
I think once I change to a 30 lb. gauge I'll see 18-20.

I think it could be useful also to source the manufactures sites.
If the manufacture has a bigger business than a garage they should have data in comparison to the stock one.
If a company has no making materials it's probably not a good idea to invest in those.

Btw: Build quality is critical with that part of the turbo! If any material will be worn away it can cause damage to all the following parts of the motor.

it is about cummins BUT it makes quiete clear that especially compressor wheels are not easy to compare.

Ive a German company here with a Youtube clip explaining the same thing: neither the amount of wheels nor the diameter lets configure out its characteristics!

Too many variables. Dito on turbos. In the cummins test the author did almost all so called upgrade turbos did NOT noticeable better over all.
