So,
I went out and started my truck today and noticed that it didn't start up near as easy. When it started it didn't seem to have near the clatter that it should cold. It was blowing a decent amount of gray smoke (cold and when warmed up but not as much), and seemed to be down on power a small amount. Now I know that this sounds like my timing is retarded, but is there anything else it could be? The injectors (Delphi BB) and IP pump are both new (around 7K miles ago). The IP is still in exactly the same postion (according to the scribed line) that it has been at. Do "new" IP wear a little faster in the beginning requiring them to be timed again after a short period? I don't have a ferret because I don't have a fancy timing gun, just the normal one I use for my gas motors and it isn't an "advance" type. No where around me has a luminocity probe or any other means to time my IDI engine (I've called over a dozen shops within about 60 miles or so). What should I do, or where should I start trouble shooting? Thanks in advance for the help, this site is great!
