Intercooler Preperation

Here are some pics of my current turbo/intake hat assembly. What will I need to do the complete an install of a 6.0L IC? Just trying to figure out about how much this is going to cost me before I start into this and run out of funds. I already have a 6.0 IC (Thanks Punkmechanic!), but I need to reseal it. I have the aftermarket billet grille, so that opens up a little space in front of the radiator already. Should I have my transmission cooler in front of the IC, then the IC, and then the radiator? What is the best setup for me at this point? Thanks for any advice in advance.

From what I've heard I would say you should have your tranny cooler first, then IC, then radiator, like you said...... You're going to have to have some pipe bent to make that IC hookup work good, unless you have another plan, that can get kind of pricey..... why mines still in pieces now......

I'm hoping to start gathering pieces and parts for what I need to do this over the next week or so. I'll be going over everything between the front and rear bumpers to make sure it's all ready for some long miles. I just heard today that a job I was looking into might be starting on the 1st or March, and that will take me to Cali for the next 2-6 months. I'll be leaving my other half and kids here while I work down there. If I don't have the IC installed by then, I'll have to wait until I get back to complete it.

I would clock the turbo's intake housing so that it points up more, and run a 90* pipe off of it to the drivers side, route that to the intercooler. Then run the cold side intercooler piping up the passenger side, and into an intake hat of some sort. Russ made me one, get ahold of him and see what he can do, its should be fairly universal to use, so I would think that it would work for your application.

That's what I was thinking too. I'll call Russ sometime this week and see what that'll run me because I want to IC this truck. I plan on taking LOTS of pics so that I can reflect back on them for future reference.

My 6.0 intake elbow was $28 from ford I believe, and you need a propane hat of some sort. All in all like $50 or something, just talk to Russ

I still have the Ford part number for the elbows if you need it. When Justin and I bought ours they were $30.82 each. I ended up buying the propane hat from Russ.
I can give you a pic of what it looks like also if you want one.

Pics would be very helpful. When I replaced the drain hose today, I removed my intake hat to gain access, and before installing it I tried to "clock" it to see how much room I'd have. It's going to require a new/modded intake hat to make this work. It looks like I'll have to have a 90 elbow right out of the turbo, and can route hoses/pipes from there as needed. I still need to figure out where/how I'm going to mount a new air filter housing and what's the best way to route that to the turbo as well. This isn't going to be something I can do right away, but I'm starting some research and development on it now so that I know what to plan for.

russ if you are on where did you get that bottom piece? are you just sandwitching it between the manifold and the elbow?

Yes, It is a propane adapter hat from Impco for a model 125 mixer. I bore the center out and shorten it also to clear the turbo, weld a bung in the top of the elbow and drill it for a 3/8 rod to clamp it all down.
