Injectors installed but still a knock

The knock could be as simple as an advanced pump, but ruling out that the IP is older thus retarding the timing. My buddy's 94 had a knock to it and it ended up being a piston coming apart putting 2 holes in the block.
Is there any signs of chuffing coming from exhaust or intake area? Could be a valve.
With what info has been posted makes it difficult to determine the cause.

Or could be gear knock. My 91 sounds sick with it. We checked it over and it was just the timing gears. My 86`s needs the bottom end rebuilt to fix its ****

I didn't read the the whole thing so sorry if I'm repeating, but I had a tick forever in my 85 and it turned out to be a cracked flexplate.
