Either that guy got extraordinarily lucky or he put a LOT of work into that truck!! (didn't read the description but saw the pictures). That's an impressive looking Terra...it's also the first time I've ever seen a Traveler-style shell with a two-piece liftgate...most Traveler shells have a single-piece liftgate that goes up, similar to a minivan. Was a Traveler-style 2-piece liftgate an option I haven't previously heard of, or did that guy make that himself? Certainly, while Travelers and Terras are the same length, I'm pretty sure the Traveler shell wasn't really designed to fit a Terra...it's certainly interesting...

The two piece tailgate is a custom jobby. Its done by cutting the traveler's original 1 piece lift gate in half and using a regular Scout II tailgate and hardware. Its pretty cool. I did it on my Traveler.

Although gutless. I like my Sd33T in my scout. I get around 30 MPG's with a couple air/exhaust mods and a reasonable right foot.

OMG 80 Hp for non turbo?

That makes a 5.7 diesel look pirky

I think some one had the right idea to put a 6.9 in one of those.

David85 considering the Jeep liberty with a common rail diesel, better aerodynamics, torque converter lockup, and overdrive could only muster 27 mpg I think 25 is pretty good with the aerodynamics of a brick and about 1000 more lbs. As for Jon with a 6.9 in his Terra I've wheeled Tellico numerous times with a SD-33 non turbo Terra. I definately wouldn't call them gutless: you have to drive with more finese than bulldozing your way through. Actually the Traveler liftgate conversion to work with a tailgate is pretty easy. There have been numerous Traveler tops shortened 18 inches to fit a scout 2. Eason

I take it your SD-33 had a T-19 behind it?

I drove a '78 SD-33 around once...it has a TF727 behind it, and it made may 4 speed SD-33T look like a NASCAR winner Never drove a non-turbo SD-33 with a 4 speed, though, so I don't know how much of that was the engine and how much was the tranny.

Oh wow...you learn something new every day! Didn't think dealing with the latches and such would be so easy...granted I've only ever laid eyes on a couple of Traveler liftgates. Even compared to Scout II's, Travelers are a rare bird around here...

Well I managed to get 24.8 MPG out of my F250 this summer so I am a little hard to impress as of late

Mind you thats all cruising at 55 MPH as much as traffic allows so my average is lower when it comes to city driving. Much lower if I am driving the engine below operating temp.

We've got a turbodiesel ranger with an engine supposedly pushing 86Hp stock and it has some pep. I would guess with the current setup (extra cab, high rise canopy, 4x4 and 235 tires on taller rear springs), it might be of comparable size and weight as that scout.

It can move it's own weight pretty well and in low range works great as a 4x4. Add some weight and it does feel it though.

and when you wheel them, any angle it pukes oil out of the road draft tube. i tried mild trails with the STD......it was a dog, the 6.9 idles up over and through anything i point it at!

stock, it was in the rear off the block so the oil would slosh and you'd lose quarts at a time. you thought my creek videos were scary?
