Looking at the last pic of the engine I noticed the temp sender is in the back of the head. Look to the right edge of the pic and you can barely see the top of the injection pump gear cover and clearly see the upper radiater hose from the thermostat housing. So the front end of the engine is towards the right of the pic. also notice the reverse flow exhaust manifold log on the passenger side of the heads...

Interesting head casting, It has some reinforced head bolt casting material under the bolts from exhaust manifold to valve cover kinda like the 1987 6.9 idi's. But its not as much as the 7.3 casting. All my 1984-86 6.9's don't look like that wonder if its a HD or MD series engine difference.
