I have a 1993 Ford F350 crewcab 4x4 single rear wheel long bed, The engine has 373,000 hard, hard miles on it, but it still starts everyday and runs fine, Lately I have been noticing its been either using or burning excessive amounts of oil, now my oil pan is really "junked up'" as this truck used to be a snow plow truck and the salt I guess got to the pan really bad , I fixed 1 hole in it and ever since no leaks from it. The other day I drove above Scranton,PA (about 260 mi)
and on the way home I checked the oil and was 4 quarts low! This is the first miles on a fresh oil change, (mobile 1 oil filter, Warren 15W40 oil, Lucas full synthetic oil additive/that mixes with all oil types). Yesterday I had to add another 4 quarts!, I have a new oil pan and gasket I just dont know how to replace it with out taking the engine out which I dont want to do without doing a rough rebuild, (gaskets, waterpump, fuel pump, headwork, injectors, etc). SO im kinda scratching my head wondering what the problem is, Im spending more on oil that fuel and thats BAD! Any thoughts?

Check your CDR to see if it's gone bad. And remove the oil cap and start the engine and see how much blowby you have.

It's the big tuna can looking thing bolted to the back of the intake manifold. It has a diaphragm inside that can go away. Remove the air cleaner and there it is. Kind of like a PCV on a gasser.

All of them are the same. You should have one unless someone removed it and installed a road draft tube? The turbos have them in different places ( I saw your post looking for one, so I know you don't have one.... yet).

I think I may have found it, it is on the back of the intake right in front of the glowplug regulator, now to find a replacement...

Take it off the intake and try blowing through it from each side. If air can go both ways it's probaly bad or needs to be cleaned (might help). If only one way then it's OK.

I will try that see if it works, if not I priced one at Ford and its $66.32+tax which is more than I have to spend at the moment. Another friend of mine says they dont really matter on these but his 7.3 IDI is turbo charged and doesnt have one. But I will still check to make sure.
