I have some fan blade questions about the later model Strokes

I have a 1995 Powerstroke I am converting my fan clutch to either an air operated fan clutch or an electronic one from Horton. While I am at it I may as well get rid of the heavy metal fan I have. Did the later model 7.3’s, 6.0’s, and newer engines come with a plastic fan? Can someone post a photograph of what they looks like? I need to know how many mounting holes they have. Also, some measurements would be a huge help as well. I need the overall diameter and the diameter of the center hole. Any help at all would be a huge help.

By the way, I am not opposed to locating a fan from a completely different vehicle altogether. I am just starting with the PowerStrokes first. I am hoping to find what I need within the Ford and International realm.

I know for a fact the 6.0 has a plastic fan. Let me see if I can find a picture, I will say it reminds me more of a fan that you would see on a big truck, rather than the "automotive" style found on an IDI, I am not sure what the fan on any of the 7.3 PSD's had....

The stock fan clutch for the fan is also electronically controlled on a 6.0 also.....

This is a picture of a 6.0 I found on the web (it is not my engine).... also a picture of the front of the engine with no fan and the waterpump without the pulley on it (from the 6.0 Bible)...

Thanks for the photographs. That gives me a better idea as to what I am looking for. When you say the fan clutch on the 6.0 is electronicly controled what do you mean? Is it still attached to the water pump? Judging by the photograph I would say it is. Horton I am hoping to run is not attached. Is the fan in the first photograph a stock 6.0 fan? I see the wire to the pump so I think I can see how it works.

the 99 + is plastic and threads the the wp the same
the 6.0 is plastic but uses a electronic clutch

Yes that is the stock 6.0 Fan, and instead of it using a mechanical spring style fan clutch, the fan clutch is activated by the PCM. It is nice that way, I don't have to worry if that little spring gets full of crap or not.

Now I am interested in using a fan from a 6.0. It looks like it would work. The fan shroud is the next question. I wonder if it would mate up to my older radiator.

I am not sure.... I do know on a 6.0 you can not see the fan unless you look over the back of the fan shroud..... I am not sure of the difference in size between an OBS and an SD radiator......

It sounds like there is only one way to find out. The problem is I do not want to be stuck with a fan and shroud I cannot use. I also just realized the space issue with the two different fan clutch assemblies I want to test out. This is going to be a very involved proccess I see.

I wish I could be more help. My truck is in one piece, and I have not had any reason to be in there. I could try to snap some pics this weekend, but I am not sure how much help they would be. Do you have anything specific you would like to see? I can at least give you an idea of how everything looks when it is put together.....

Well, it is starting to look as though my plans for using a fan clutch assembly that is not running off the water pump is going to work. I just do not have the space. However, your photographs and comments got me to think maybe I should just try to run the six liter assembly. It looks for more effeiciant and most likey cheaper in the long run. If you could tall me which direct it has to move in that would be a big help. Also, if the fan can be flipped. That way it does not matter if mine turns in a different direction or not. While I am at it, I wonder if I should look into a newer style radiator as well. Damn, this is turning into more than I wanted.
