How to know if engine is hydro locked?

I got it back together today. I fired it up and had a slight knock at first that went away.
I think that may have just been noise from getting the oil circulating again. I drained it overnight so it was probably pretty dry and it may have taken a bit to get the oil I poured in the filter a short while to get around.

I think I may have dodged a bullet. I had no idea the hood wasn’t enough protection to prevent water infiltration. I’ve only owned Cummins for the last 20 years and I suppose the turbo charger set up provides a bit more protection from the elements. Sure wish I knew this sooner. Maybe the mods could include this bit of info to the new members in the initial greeting message we get. Might save someone a headache.

At least you took the time to pull the glow plugs and bar the engine over before using the starter. IF you had used the starter w/o doing this you would have bent a rod or 2
I put a rubber floor mat over my filter housing to keep the water out for sure
