Products needed:5 Cab Lights of your choice, I chose the factory type for the year of my truck from Napa Auto Parts. (They come with everything)
Roll of Automotive paint tape
3/4" Sheet metal SCrews #10
16 Gauge wire (Red)
1 Crimpable Wire connector
1 Male Connector
1 Female Connector
4 Scotch locks
Tools Needed:
Wire Striper/Crimper
Test Light
Phillips Head Screw Driver
Sharpie Marker
Tape Measure
Drill
Drill Bits
Step one: Run the Automotive Grade Paint tape from one side of the top of the cab to the other, go back about 6" or more. The tape will be needed for stencling out the placement of your cab lights.
Step Two: Grab a Sharpie Marker and a Tape Measure measure up 3 3 3/8" From the edge of the front windhield on the roof, do this about every 6" or so. Once that is done take your sharpie and connect all the marks you made, all being 3 3/8" off the windshield, making sure to follow the contour of the windhield.
Step Three: Now that we know how far back you need to go with the lights, now we need to know the distance between them all. Measure over 6 1/2" from the driver side drip rail and put a mark make it cross with the line you put the other direction to make a cross. This measurement is to the center of the cab light.
Step Four: Repeat step three again for the passenger side by measuring 6 1/2" from the drip rail over, mark it and that line will again be the center of the passenger side cab light.
Step Five: From the center of the left and right cab lights measure over 12" and make a mark this again will be the center of the cab lights. Do the 12" measurement once again for the very center light.
Step Six: Now you have everything marked where it needs to go now its time to start drilling some holes. Before you start this step MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS HOW YOU WANT IT! Once you start drilling there is no turning back. Ok now grab your Drill and the proper size Drill Bit for what ever size screw your using to mount the lights to the cab. Place the lights centered over the marks you earlier marked on the tape. Once you have that the way you want it use a sharpie marker and make a dot where the screw should be. Remove the light then begin drilling both holes. Once that is done continue doing the same to all them until you get them all drilled. So far you should have only 10 small holes in your roof.
Step Seven: Get a larger drill bit large enough to fit two wires into plus some more. In between the holes you previously drilled your going to drill another hole per light for the wires for the lights to run. Do that for all five lights. Now you have 15 holes in your roofs cab. Thats why you want to make sure everything is right!
Step Eight: Now for some work inside in your cab, You will need to remove your trucks headliner. Once that is removed proceed to the next step.
Step Nine: Now that is out of the way things should be easy now. Now its time to start wiring things up. Run the lights in the center hole you drilled earlier (The big one) once you get it fished through repeat this for all five lights.
Step Ten: Ground the ground wire to your inner part of the cabs roof(Make sure not to drill into the outer shell of the cab!!!!) Repeat for all 5 lights.
Step Eleven: Now for the hot wire run your red 16 gauge wire from the driver side to the passenger. The driver side light use the crimpable wire connector to connect the cab light wire to the red wire. Dont repeat this part. The reamainder of the lights will be scotch locked to that red wire. I used them only because of the location, they will not be in weather so I see no reason why not to use them, but again its your truck use scotch locks or connect them to your liking.
Step Twelve: Run your wiring and tuck it away or tape it to your cabs roof, again its to your liking. Run that single red wire down the A Pillar of the passenger side.
Step Thirteen: Under the kick panel you will find an unused wire connector, possibly the closest one to you. Double check it by using a test light once without the headlights, then once with the headlights. If you get power with the lights on you have the right connector. Now cut that wire off so you can connect the cab light wire to this wire, which is the factory location to where they hook up if your truck came equipped with lights. Splice back both wires and use your male connector and female connector connect both.
Step Fourteen: Test the cab lights to verify there working. If there all working now your pretty much done inside your cab until you go reinstall your headliner and trim.
Step Sixteen: Install your cab lights to the roofs cab with a phillips head screwdriver and the 3/4" SMS
Now that your done installing them again make sure they all work. Oh yeah one more step
Step Seventeen: Grab a beer!
