Hey y'all, I am looking for information on specs to consider when installing Russ's (or even R&D's) Type4 cam. I have an opportunity to purchase a type4 cam and had some questions.

Mu understanding so far..
- The intakes are recessed between 0.042 & 0.054 and the exhaust are 0.051 to 0.063 for stock and performance cams
- Use Comp 910 springs
- Set springs to an installed height of 1.80" for both IN and EX valves
- Measure piston protrusion above the deck but not sure what to compare this value to..
- Is there any timing manipulation needed like there is for the R&D cam (skipping a tooth)?

Is this right? Can anyone provide anymore clarification who has done this install before?

Thank you,
Douglas

You got it. Measure your valve recession, and check piston protrusion. The piston protrusion should match the stock specs, (No more than 0.031", IIRC). Stab it in and time it straight up, do NOT skip a tooth.

I would check your piston to valve clearances just to be safe. I seem the remember Russ saying to have .030" clearances. While he was still on here, Mac Robb said that he though that .015" is enough. I went for the .030" that I'm sure Russ recommended. Better more clearance than you need than not enough.
