How bad is the HG job on a 7.3 IDI?

It has a barbed end on the bottom of the can that slips into the probably rock hard rubber. Little bit of heat gun should help soften it up.

Heated it up and it's still broke at the base when I pulled it. I have a new one on the way. A question regarding the dipstick, I want to reinstall the oil pan and have the surfaces ready to go. I am reading that I need to install the dipstick first before I put the oil pan back on. Does that mean I need to reinstall the heads and exhaust manifolds where the dipstick bolts onto? I have those out right now.

This is wrong. I feel like the oil pan is easier to put on with no dipstick in the way. The tube isn't in the way, but there's no reason that it has to be installed in order to put the oil pan on.

You can absolutely put the pan on and then the dipstick later. On the engine I'm building the dipstick was the very last thing I put on before stuffing it back in chassis.

Got the oil pan back on but have misplaced that little nipple thing the dipstick goes into. Also did the front and rear plate gaskets as well as the water pump gasket.

I'm having trouble finding a harmonic balancer installer that fits the shaft for this engine. Anyone have advice on how to reinstall without those kits?

I just use a big dead b l o w hammer. I start the balancer on the crank and then give it two or three good swings. If it doesn't go all the way on, it will move the rest of the way when you tighten the retaining bolt.

I just used a slightly longer bolt with the factory washer to start sucking it in, then switched to the factory bolt to finish the job. I used a chain to hold the crank still while tightening it down.
Make sure to put some silicone on the washer before your final torque.

How bad is it if I switch up the push rods or put the side that was on the rocker on the other end? Forgot to number them or keep track of where they originally went

Not really all that bad in my opinion. Wear will be increased slightly, but you probably won't be able to notice. People make a big deal about putting the copper coated side against the rocker arms, but we used to use brand new push rods that didn't have any copper on them at all so it must not be that big of a deal.

I destroyed my AC condenser while removing the engine and have a new coming today. How bad is it evacuating the system and recharging? Is this a shop type of job?

I would reccomend a shop to do it, unless you have an ac vacuum pump and manifold gauges. You could use one of those hot shot cans to refill it, but it would be contaminated with oxygen and not function at its fullest.
