Sorry, couldn't pass up the moment :rotflmao
they will have plenty of time for that.
they're on a short vacation now.
I issued a stop order on post #49. it was ignored.
the immeadiate posts between the two of them have been relocated. if Mel wants to do further cleaning, it will be up to him on what he wants to keep or not.

Even though i'm new here, I guess i'll chime in. It seems to me that the whole purpose of this site is to make a public forum for those of us "weirdos" who choose to go against the grain and drive/work/maintain/restore/salvage/etc a 20+ year old american tank that is outdated, overly built, and sometimes a general pain in the ass to deal with especially when things go wrong with it.
What makes us special is the fact that, for whatever reason-each of us has- we choose to thumb our noses at the norm and recognize the underlying value and utility of these trucks and their overall inherent simplicity compared with modern "light diesels".

For me, I choose to drive these trucks because they are generally cost efficent in terms of repairs, and foremostly I can make those repairs myself and not be at the mercy of a dealership or other entity that I could potentially take a burning from because I don't posess the knowledge or equipment/tools to properly maintain or repair my vehicle.

Am I poor? By no means. Am I a cheapskate? Maybe a little. But I have what I have because i work hard and choose to save a little by owning a truck that I know like the back of my hand and it doesn't cost me $ 1,000+ per month in payments and insurance............THATS IF IT DOESN"T BREAK! If it does, that figure can double or triple at the blink of an eye. TRUST ME. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. MULTIPLE TIMES.

So I guess the point here is that there are all walks of life here on this forum and we respect each other for who we are no matter how we choose to maintain or repair our trucks.
Would I have ever attempted to just replace the o-rings on my return lines and not the caps? Hell no. I would have just paid the 40 bucks and bought the kit and been done with it. But now that David has done it with good results and the problem is fixed, will I try it when mine leak? HELL YES!
If it doesnt work, then all I have lost is a little time, if it does work then I just saved myself 35 bucks thanks to DYOUNG.

End of speech..............

read the entire thread...*****

1. good creative solution to leak problem and saved a few bucks too...kudos to u
2. the safety of truck was not jeopordized...crap hack cheap repair to either steering or brakes....so there should be no flack or attacks in this thread about the repair in question
3. the banter/flaming d get out of control
4 the grease the women ....too funny...greased with rum and vaseline .....hmmmmm.....lol
5. ty towcat for issuing cease and desist order for craptastic flaming.

6. do what it takes make these trucks go so long as vital safety is not comprimised...other than that...be cheap, creative, frugal whatever you want to call it.

LASTLY-......HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!

This is true...there are places and situations where a cheaper alternative is an option...and this is one of them. But as you mentioned...steering, brakes and drivetrain are one place where I wouldn't want to monkey something up.

I asked Russ for some Viton O-rings, and I am going to install JUST the O rings with new lines....use my existing caps because I REFUSE to give the international dealer $9 a piece for them!!!!

4 the grease the women ....too funny...greased with rum and vaseline .....hmmmmm.....lol

You should try it sometime....especially with multiple.....I better shut up or I'll be on vacation too!!!

I got to add one more thing though. David and Brad are both contributing members to this site. If either one of them made a suggestion to me about something, I seriously take it into consideration.

Brad might be able to spend the $$ and buy everything right, and have it done properly. And If I have the $$ I usually follow his route of advice.

But if $$ is tight, like it is now, I wouldn't toss David's suggestions out the window.

But when you guys get back, please don't try and e-choke each other...I'd like to see you guys BOTH stick around......I am going to break down EVENTRUALLY and need a hand!!;Sweet

You know what I can't figure about this group? All week long everybody is well behaved and then over the weekend, there must be a lot of beer drinking, too many testosterone inducing hormones, or something. Because consistently for the last few months, I come back to find my backup mods have had to do my job for me, and it makes me look bad, makes you guys look bad, and ****** me off. This forum needs an enema.
