Holley Red vs. Procomp fuel pump.

Does anybody know how the Procomp version of the Holley red pump holds up? The price is about half.

I reccomend Procomp shocks, tires and lift kits to everybody but do not have expierence with either of these fuel pumps.

Also I'm gathering that these pumps are overkill in the pressure and gpm figures so I need not look for something bigger.

I was going to pull power off of the shut off solenoid, possibly through a relay, any other reccomendations for wiring?

I buy every bargain electric pump I find at swap-meets and dis-assemble/refurbish them.

I have several Holley Reds and also some of the ProComp units; I can see no difference between the two.

I sort of figure that both are identicle with only different name stamps; neither is my first choice for actual use on a truck.

A CARTER is in all ways ten times the better pump.

Carter is also the OEM choice. Just wish Carter made a style like the Holley.

Priced right in line with the Holley. Pretty funny how there is another one with suggested use on a Dodge/Cummins and its like $70 more, same model though.

The Carters differ from the Holleys in that the Holley mounts motor-UP; whereas, the Carters mount motor-DOWN, as the fuel actually circulates through the motor-housing, thus cooling the motor.

Other than that, they are very similar in appearance, EXCEPT the Carter's hanger is independently mounted; whereas, the Holley's hanger is merely a wrap-around that stays with the pump; the Carter hanger is the superior design.

I am running one of those pro comp pumps and have been for about two years and have had zero probs except the intake screen got clogged due to a bad batch of diesel this thread explains exactly how i did my system and it works well for me.

I don't know how well they do long term with diesel, but the carter pumps have been used on gas burners as a factory pump on a few vehicles for years with no dependability issues. I remember at one time there was a factory big block chrysler carter e pump that racers were going gaga over at a parts store I was working at. Everyone wanted the things.
