Hi i was just reading a thread where you described drilling a 460 ZF to fit a diesel. The thread is from 2011:( I am wondering if you still have the photos linked in the thread?? I am curious how you used an end mill? how did you get the tranny setup in there? The bolt holes i understand wouldn't need to be exact as they really just hold it together but I'm concerned about getting the Diesel dowels EXACT. I got a 460 zf i can get CHEAP and want it behind my 6.9! If you could explain a bit better your process of get me the pics id really appreciate it!

thanks!

What Heath did was remove the adapter plate and bolted that to the 460 trans bellhousing. He also used a piece of flat plate about 1/2 or 3/4 thick bolted to all the same. Then he used a mag base drill and had an end mill in that with the cutters on the bottom of it. Worked slowly so as to keep the end mill from walking. Followed the adapter plate thru the soft aluminum bellhousing. It was s genious idea doing it that way. Others use the same adapter plate off the block and free drill it by hand. Them guys balls kland when they walk.. I'm not messing with them.. No sire...

Its really important to drill on center. Reasons for this are if the trans is off to one side or too low or high the trans wont line up with the center line on the crank. Then your front bearing on the trans will be ruined from running eccentricity all the time.... A couple of thousands off is all it takes. Thats the reason for the alignment dowels.
