that's a darn good price for the truck;Sweet
those uhaul service trucks are well taken care of by the mechs due to the fact they don't like being stranded.
even if the chassis is rusted out, the service body and ramp is worth the $$$$

I remember those U-Haul service trucks. They are pretty cool.

think of all the possibilities... saw a home made version of that in LA, it was a 4 door chev.. ramp was so angled (it had a County on it) that the nose of the land rover was 12-14' in the air or so..... the whole thing swayed when he went around corners... may have even been based on a suburban chassis.... scariest effin thing I have seen.

Only if ya got plates for the truck that read pit crew.. or pit stop.. or pit area...

That would be the perfect set up for a small racing op.

In, 2010, commercial vehicles over 14k gvw will have to be 2004 smog or newer. older vehicles will have to be retrofitted with devices to clean up their exhaust to meet 2004 regs or they are to be removed from service. currently the retrofit costs $15k(you read it right). small fleets(3 trucks or smaller falling under the regs) have until 2012 to have one vehicle in compliance but all vehicles must be in compliance by 2017. large fleets must have at least 50% in compliance by 2010 with full compliance by 2017. those trucks that are not in compliance cannot operate in certain areas such as shipping ports or the LA basin area due to enhanced pollution problems that exist already.
I can post the links for your reading later this morning.
I won't be staying Ford with the new fleet. Fords have not been reliable for towtrucks for some time and their resale shows. A 2004 f550 with a 6.0 can be had for $6k. the extended warranties are good, but a 6 week average turnaround time at the stealership will put me out of business. I'm not saying the Dodge is problem free, but the issues are smaller and won't sideline a truck for an extended period of time.

my very own hell
Calvin, you said "commercial vehicles over 14k", and I've seen the text of that darn law and IIRC that's exactly what it says - what if you have a non-commercial vehicle that is over 14k GVW? Like this U-haul service truck, if someone buys it for their personal use, and they do not own a transport or towing and recovery business, wouldn't that make the truck a non-commercial vehicle? He's not making any money with it, chances are he will likely not put many miles on it either, will the CARB pencil-pushers still treat the truck as a gross-polluting money-maker and force it off the roads?
