I have seen something new today. I've always thought that was freeze plugs for coolant passages in the head.
was there any issues with the oil cooler sending oil into the coolant?

Those are coolant plugs guys. You must of had the intake valley pan gasket leaking around the intake passages. Did the intake manifold bolts come out really easy? If so maybe the oil came up from the valley. Look closely at this. I think you are not seeing whats really going on there... But I could learn something new too.....

that is oil from the valley side, those go right into the water jacket. I have this sawed up head to look at you know, well Mel has them now.
