I have noticed that my truck will start up easily in the morning when it is cool outside but when I come out after work the truck just cranks and cranks and cranks. It is too warm for the glow plugs to cycle in the evening but in the morning it cycles and fires right up. If I shut it down after driving even a short trip it will fire right up easily. Same on longer trips including pulling a car trailer so I dont think its the injection pump.
What is going on with this thing?
The truck cranks just fine, plenty fast for sure.

Any ideas I havent thought of?

Thanks,
Eric

I have a 1987 with the solid state controller, the same as yours I believe. Mine cycles ALWAYS, hot, cold or in between. If yours is not cycling, I would say you have problems in either the controller or the glow plugs. What kind of glow plugs are in it? How old? You may also want to check the ground as that is a common problem area as well.
