question, I have been reading that the IDI should never see over 1050 EGT. so where does the 1300 come from?
From what I understand, 1300 is max EGT, and should not see that kind of temp for more than a few seconds. 1050 is more conservative.
I believe a lot of this depends on where the probe is located. If you have the probe located too far down the exhaust, it will read cooler than up at the manifolds, so 1050 kinda gives you some head way to be sure .

I went to their site and it looks like they don't have a tachometer for a 1987 diesel (says 10,000 rpm gas only).
Unless you are looking for an aftermarket tach, you will probably be better of finding an OEM tach out of a parts truck or online.then you can run the factory tach sender as well.

1050 is if your probe is further downstream. If your probe was 6" or so after the turbo then 1050 would be the highest you would want to see.
