Hmm.. I was working from memory from a book I read a long time ago. Guess my memory is as foggy as those spray nozzles. LOL

I knew the expansion rate was pretty good. If you have a slow day and want some interesting reading, check this out.

Makes our kind of carnage look like someone spilled their drink.

Mel this should probably be in the Lounge, after reading about the Locomotive explosions, but here goes.
When I was 19 I worked on the SS Ben E.Tate as 3rd Assistant Engineer on the Great Lakes. Now she had two triple furnace Scotch boilers, fire tube, same as a steam Locomotive, but not superheated steam. They only carried 180 PSI to power a triple expansion 1800 HP engine. We had some tubes leaking in one of the furnaces, I volunteered to go in and roll the tubes to stop the leaks, young and stupid, pulled the fire, lowered the pressure to 100PSI, I then climbed in crawled back into the combustion chamber and rolled five tubes to stop the leaks. I was barely able to crawl out I was so hot and exhausted. After I was out, got to thinking, what if one tube had got to thin and exploded. That was 63 years ago and still have dreams about it when I read something about boilers exploding. What tremendous power steam has!
