It looks like I have a fuel leak under the truck. Not sure if it is the pump, a hose, or an o-ring somewhere. I sprayed the engine off tonight, and will try to trace it in the morning.

If it is coming from the flywheel cover/bell housing then look up in the valley of the engine. If you have noticed sediment covering the bottom of the fuel filter housing under the heater plate then there is a good chance that the housing has corroded through. Other possibilities: hoses between filter and lift pump, heater connector through the filter housing (caused by the heater going bad and shorting), lift pump itself or the water drain valve connection. There are other possibilities but those are the most likely. Good luck.

Let me add one more thing to look at......

Check the fuel regulator where the fuel restriction sender is.......it looks like a cheap oil press sender ----and the only thing on the reg with a wire connection.

Simply remove it and install a 1/8" brass plug-CAREFUL not to over tighten or it will burst the threads......
All that sender does is light up the fuel filter idiot light .

PHERD wants $30 odd dollars for that little jewel  LOL

I had a mystery fuel leak about a year back.....NOTHING like the smell of hot diesel :puke: and that was where it was comming from.

Hope this helps!

Ok, here are some pics of the leak, maybe 2 leaks, don't know if fuel is leaking down to the banjo bolt from the sending unit or not at this point.

I'm going to hunt the bins for a 1/8 plug and hopefully that is it. Is there going to be a problem with just letting the electrical connection be taped up somewhere?

plug installed, and there is still a drip at the banjo bolt. Looks like I have to go further. -cuss

Although not impossible, I would not think that the banjo joint would start leaking out of the blue. When I've known of it leaking is after it has been disturbed. I'd be more suspicious of the pump itself (10 years is not so bad on a fuel pump). If you have taped the fuel vacuum switch wire then worry no more, it will be fine.

I bought me some parts this afternoon. I've already pulled the fuel canister, not much crud in there at all.

When I got to the banjo bolt to loosen it, it was already loose -cuss

I figured that I was already in this far, so I completed the install. This is the first fuel pump replacement since new.

Here is a pic of my customized 1-1/4 box end wrench. It worked pretty good

There were 2 leaks, the sending unit, and at the banjo bolt. The banjo bolt was loose when I got to it, so I can't exactly say for sure if the pump was bad or not.
