front suspension Q's for a true custom.

i was wondering if there was a 2wd straight axle i could use with the 8 x 6.5 bolt pattern.

ive been piecing parts together for a new project truck.

now im having thoughts of getting back to my roots with building a true custom hotrod.

this time with an IDI.

need to figure out what i would need for a front suspension.

i have no experience with medium duty trucks.

can anyone shed some light for me?

I thnk the mid 90s dodge cab n chassis trucks could get a straight axle 2wd front suspension. Should have the 8x6.5 pattern too. Would be a dually axle I bet though.

I have never actually worked on one myself, but there is a wrecker guy here in town who was a real **** to me about it when I used to deliver auto parts a long time ago. He asked me if I was stupid or something, because he asked for 1 ton parts, and all 1 tons had a solid front axle.....which his wrecker did.

On the dodge with straight axle wasn't that like a 1-ton cab & chassis or some such thing? Also I remember some truck being 2wd, but basically it was a 4wd front end with no pumpkin.

My friend is parting out a late 90s Dodge with a solid front axle. I can grab some pics next time I'm over there. First 1-Ton truck I've seen like that

the 6 lug axle i have will not cut it IMO.
plans of using a sterling 10.25

I am not sure what the axle looks like, but the chevy "step van" (A bread truck) used an 8x6.5 lug pattern. This is what guys will get the 19.5 rims from (they are dually also) to run 19.5's on the pickups. I think it is a lot like the Rockwell Carry-All solid axle found in the F-Superduty (even though they are 10 lug wheels)

This is what I immediately thought of when I read your post. I would just get the suspension from a f-superduty that old truck would look great slammed with a dually rear end!!!

+1 on that last post. If you don't mind going spring over axle up front, look for a pre '97 F450 or 550 that 2wd. Could always get a dually one and tear it down to see what the spindle is like. I'm sure 8 lug 2wd ttb outers will bolt on.

bought this thing today for 500 bucks.
low mileage 7.3 w/ a ZF5, DRW
may end up using the twin I beam.....
hope i can find something better.
