Firewall Ground Lug

So how is this firewall ground lug work? I'm refering to the ground that the engine block wire connects to. It seems to be insulated from the actual firewall. I was trying to remove the heavy ground cable to clean it and found it spins and wiggles on the wall. Might be a soft washer insulating it from the metal firewall. Getting to the back side of it will be tuff but my dash is coming out today... Yesterday it was 104 here and I was out cooking in that heat under the hood and dash... My life sure does suck lately.

Sorry Gary. Are you refering to the ground that connects on the stud for the wiper motor or a different one? You don't have to use anything specific to ground it. You can always just clean off a little spot and drive a sheet metal screw through the firewall somewhere to connect the body to the battery neg either permanently or for trouble shooting purposes. You don't have to go through the engine block.

Its a long story Al.. Pull up a chair. 3 days ago I went to use my rig. Been sitting for 11 days. Found no tach working. Tried many things. Please read all of this post. So far I have found nothing. Still no tach and not sure what I'm doing now. Have the cluster out and attempted testing the connections key on engine off. Have a couple of hot locations but they do not match up with what Bill has posted. I'm confused because I do not understand ohms and volts or wiring. My printed circut appears odd looking too. Almost like corrosion has gotten under the clear plastic. But replacing it seems wrong. Throwing parts at a problem is not what I want to do. Already replaced the teca relay by the master cylinder. Going to recheck that with what has been posted here. Have sharpened up my test light to ease penetration...
