Finally making progress...

Hello!

As I mentioned a while back, my battery cables were determined to be NFG. I realized this right before I pulled the starter and right before I planned to start working on getting my glow plug system working (finally). So, I figured to do it all in one fell swoop...along with replacing the pyro that had died, getting the cab ceiling insulated, and getting the exhaust taken care of. School got in the way (as usual), and I also had to spend some time gathering parts...but I was finally able to actually accomplish something today. I tried to get to work on re-wiring the glow plugs (I'm making a new harness; pics forthcoming) on Friday, but weather and technical difficulties (read: a Bic lighter does not do a good job of sealing a heat-shrink connection, especially in high wind ) kept me from getting anywhere.

So, after one more round of parts-gathering (this time including a heat gun; $10 at Harbor Freight), I got down to business after getting out of school for the day today. Object lesson learned: Heat-shrink is our friend, and a heat gun makes the job exponentially easier now I just have to hope that the cheap-junk Harbor Freight tool doesn't commit hara-kiri on me before I'm completely finished with this job

I just hope I've got the truck drivable by this weekend...I was supposed to go down south last weekend, but had to push it off to this weekend...

"All Done" isn't the right word...I still have two solid days' more work, at the minimum. But, you are 100% right about it feeling good...I finally got a significant chunk of it done

I still have to bolt the controller down to the inner fender, wire the WTS light, get 12 volts to the controller, build/install the battery cables, install the new starter, remove the old pyro and install the new one, re-run the IP wires (I'm running the wires to the IP and the wires to the GP's over the alternator instead of back by the dipstick), and change the engine, tranny, and transfer case oil and the fuel filter (changed out the coolant filter today). That's the bare minimum I have to do before I can take the truck to L.A. this weekend.

In the near future, I also have to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets, seal up my crossover pipe and downpipe connections, get an exhaust system installed (hopefully a 5" ), get the insulation on the cab ceiling (I'm hoping to do this before driving the truck down south), and heaven knows what else. I have to get my truck as happy as possible before June...
